India Welcomes a new leader

India Welcomes a new leader

Once in a long while, a great leader arrives. They are so charismatic, so powerful that they can change the course of the world, of nations and most importantly of attitudes of the people that make up countries.

The leader inspires hope and allows people to believe in a better future than the one we can see for ourselves. A leader often carries within themselves enough will power to alter the inertia of millions of people.

Today, we have a great leader being elected as the leader for India. Narendra Modi, you have changed so much for so many people; and more importantly for me.

The reason why my faith is in you is because of all the beautiful things that you have done. There are many things that seemed impossible that you made me believe.

1. I believe that India’s future will be bright under your leadership

In January, I had the privilege to visit Gujarat and spend 10 magical days there. I travelled all parts of Gujarat, and spoke to many people: from taxi drivers, to resort owners to dabeli hawkers – and all of them had something lovely to say about Narendra Modi; despite their religious backgrounds.

Gujarat has bounced back from the massive earthquake of 2001, becoming one of the jewels in India’s crown. The infrastructure is world class, the cities are planned beautifully and even better, the planning is meticulously executed.

The pothole-less roads through the length and breadth of Gujarat, the bus routes of Ahmedabad, the huge flyovers in yet-to-be-developed towns, the “kutch nahi dekha to kuch nahi dhekha” tourism campaigns, and optimum usage of all kinds of terrain have all converted Gujarat to a state that stands out.

This makes companies from all over the world are choosing Gujarat as the place to be, and is always in the top 3 locations!

Now imagine, if he could do this with Gujarat, rebuilding something from scratch, imagine what Narendra Modi and his team can do with this country.

2. He has made the nation believe in the power of a single vote

With the highest turn out for votes since 1951, you have inspired a nation to get out of their homes and go place their vote.

3. He has made people who had given up on politics convert into political enthusiasts!

I am one of these people. Hardly keeping track of what was going on, because every time I made an effort I only saw disappointment. This time, my eyes are on the screen, I have butterflies in my stomach and I can feel this aura of excitement around me. Everyone’s seems excited!

In my eyes, these 3 things are amazing characteristics to have in the leader of our country. India has won!

You are your contribution to this world

This is such an inspirational video – that reinstates my belief that being your true self is the biggest contribution to this world.

The special way we see things, the specific things that life has taught us, the conversations that changed the way we live, think or look at the world have immense potential to change the lives of others too.

I love how a simple idea of sharing your daily experiences, your home can make a big impact of so many that are involved.

True entrepreneurship works like this – taking a simple idea and taking it to millions.

This is definitely on my do to list when I go to Mumbai! Must check it out, Dharavi!

The secret to unlimited wealth

When I was a kid, my mom would tell me stories about the gods and goddesses who used to walk the earth once upon a time – long long ago. The stories were magical, and seemed so untrue. As I grew up, I started to doubt the stories and then at some point discredited them entirely.

Over the course of time – I have found – that the stories were not meant to be taken literally, but they were trying to teach us something.

I’ll share more of them with you when I can – but this one really made me think. I recently discovered it in a book I didn’t even knew I owned – called ‘Creating Affluence” by Deepak Chopra.

This is the introduction to the book- and it took me back in time. Here it is:

Once upon a time, in a far away land, a young man went to the forest and said to his spiritual master, “I want to have unlimited wealth, and with that unlimited wealth, I want to help and heal the world. Will you please tell me the secret to creating affluence?”

The spiritual master replied, “There are two Goddesses that reside in the heart of every human being. Everybody is deeply in love with these supreme beings. But there is a certain secret that you need to know, and I will tell you what that is.

Although you love both Goddesses, you much pay more attention to one of them. She is the Goddess of Knowledge and her name is Sarasvati. Pursue her, love her and give her your attention. The other Goddess, whose name is Lakshmi, is the goddess of wealth. When you pay more attention to Sarasvati, Lakshmi will become extremely jealous and pay more attention to you. The more you seek the Goddess of Knowledge, the more the Goddess of Wealth will seek you. She will follow you wherever you go and never leave you. And the wealth you desire will be yours forever”

There is power in knowledge, desire, and spirit.

The most beautiful traffic jam

I was damn irritated. It was Eid, a holiday for almost everyone in my country, but my boss had decided that since no one on our team is a Muslim, we didn’t need the day off. So here I was, early in the morning, trying to get to work on time – with this festive atmosphere around me.

And that was when it happened. The huge mosque started the prayer. The cars and bikes infront of me started to slow down, and the thousands of men and boys – made their way to the mosque for prayers.

I was weaving my way through traffic – ‘DON’T GET STUCK. DON’T SLOW DOWN. JUST KEEP MOVING.’

Finally, there was no hope and there I was. The irritated little me – stuck in a traffic jam. The mosque was full, and the devout believers started to lay down their mats on the road and started praying. And, then – the way I look at traffic jams changed for ever.

An old man, had a walking stick in one hand, and the hand of a little toddler in the other. They stopped in front of my bike – and then, this little boy took their mat out from under his arm and laid it on the floor, took his grandfather’s walking stick and leaned it against my bike, and helped his grandfather kneel on the floor so they could pray together.

It was beautiful. ┬áIt put a smile on my face that even a whole day of working on a holiday couldn’t wipe off.

That was the only time I have found so much of beauty in a thing that makes me cringe. Sometimes, its all about seeing with different eyes. The world is so full of love. We just need to look for it.
